The second is to add mortar to the floor to even it out.
My shower floor is not level.
The first is to slide shims under the base to bring one or more sides up to level.
I will stay within the lines that we drew on the floor in tips 1 and 2.
You obviously should want to install it level and you shouldn t go any farther until it is.
I will then pull my trowel across the floor trying to leave nice even tracks.
Instead it may be an issue with joists and beams below your floor that require shoring up.
Your foundation may not be the problem.
So if your shower area has a edge upstand on all sides then its easy.
Any shower base is only as level as the floor it rests upon.
So yeah i m confused as to how it got messed up.
Once this has been done you can use the shims to place the cement board.
Once the thin set is mixed i then use my tile trowel the notched side to spread the thin set over the dip in the floor.
If your level reads level then you flip the level end for end and set it back down and it s not level.
You don t tile the entire shower floor to meet the elevation of the floor grate.
While shower bases are made of durable materials an uneven floor underneath will allow the base to flex and give under the weight of those who use it regularly.
Run the shower for five minutes then turn it off.
You tile the floor then thread the drain grate as needed to meet the elevation of the already tiled floor.
Tiles here are almost as thin as paper so its not going to raise the floor significantly but 10mm should be sufficient.
You might as well throw that level as hard as you can out the window.
If the shower base installation floor is not level there are two options.
This is accomplished by cutting your cement board into the shape of the desired surface.
Soon the shower base will begin to pop and creak and it will give slightly when you stand on it.
Now you are ready to rake the dip.
For instance you may have a dining room floor that end to end is level but between those two points are various sags and dips.
Although the shims aren t necessary they help to prevent problem areas.
If whatever water left standing after a few minutes of draining is limited to numerous tiny patches the size of a thumbprint or a little finger that lie above lower set random tiles or small areas where the wider grout is lower that is perfectly fine.
Smooth surface tiles dont need the same fall as the riven effect ones but obviously these are safer for a shower floor.
